Paint & Plant - Mommy & Me
Join us with your little one for some messy finger painting and joyful dirt-digging fun! This activity is designed for ages 5 and up and is perfect for parents and children to create, laugh, and grow together.
What to expect
A relaxed, welcoming space where both kids and grown-ups can get hands-on.
All materials provided: clay or terracotta pots, non-toxic washable finger paints, brushes (for adults who prefer), stencils and stickers for extra decoration, potting soil, a selection of child-friendly, low-maintenance flowering plants, and aprons to keep clothes cleaner.
A brief demonstration by our friendly staff on simple painting techniques and safe plant handling, then it’s your turn.
Activity flow (about 45–60 minutes)
Warm-up (5–10 min)
Quick stretch and a simple breathing game to settle excited kids.
Introduction to the paints and tools; a short safety reminder about not eating paint and washing hands after.
Finger painting time (15–25 min)
Parents and children decorate their pot together. Encourage mixing colors, making handprints, dots, stripes, or animal faces — whatever sparks joy.
Adults can help younger children with reach and finer details while letting kids lead the creative choices.
Staff are on hand with simple prompts: “What kind of garden would your flower like?” or “Can you make a sun for your plant?”
Planting and dirt-digging (10–15 min)
Kids scoop soil into the pot, press it gently around the plant, and learn how deep to place roots.
We show how to pat soil down, water lightly, and where to keep the pot at home for best growth.
Parents and children can add a small decorative label with the plant’s name and the planting date.
Wrap-up and take-home tips (5–10 min)
Quick chat about simple care: watering frequency, sunlight needs, and how to tell if a plant needs attention.
Each family leaves with a painted pot, a living flower, and a short care card with friendly reminders and troubleshooting tips.
Learning and benefits
Fine motor skills: painting and scooping soil strengthen hand coordination.
Sensory play: textures of soil and paint, the smell of flowers, and the cool touch of leaves engage multiple senses.
Emotional connection: shared creative tasks strengthen parent-child bonding and give kids confidence in decision-making.
Responsibility and curiosity: caring for a living plant teaches routines and nurtures curiosity about nature.
Best for
Children ages 5 and up, accompanied by a parent or caregiver.
Families who enjoy creative, slightly messy activities and want a small living project to bring home.
What to bring
Closed-toe shoes are recommended for outdoor gardening areas.
An old shirt or extra change of clothes if you’re worried about paint splashes (we provide aprons).
A camera or phone to capture the masterpiece and planting smiles.
Join us for a fun, hands-on adventure where imagination and nature meet — take home a bright flower and a pot painted with memories you made together.
